Great motorcycle ride on a beautiful, sunny, 80's day up to Ave Maria. It is a new area developed as a complete community with a large university and the Ave Maria Oratory is a fantastic Catholic church in the heart of the community. It is a 27,000 square foot building which seats 1,100 in a traditional church plan. Ave Maria is out in the farm land, large orange orchards, on the road to Immoklee. We have visited before and went out to view the progress of the community.
We continued our ride to Immoklee and visited the Seminole Casino....didn't win any money.
Just a beautiful ride through the countryside. A day of contrasts from Religion to gambling.

Hi Kitty & Ken,
ReplyDeleteNanci M. sent me the link to your blog. What a great road trip and what wonderful pics. I can't believe how similar your road trip was to ours, except for time of year and mode of transportation. We traveled for 6 months pulling a Trail Manor pop-up behind our Honda Pilot, leaving NH in late October, camping at National and State parks, starting with Gettysburg, then Big Meadows on Skyline Drive, down to the Panhandle, staying at St. Andrews in Panama City, Big Lagoon in Pensacola, then to New Orleans area at Fontainbleu SP, then a KOA outside San Antonio, then a couple of nights in Las Cruces, a month in Tucson, with side trips to the Grand Canyon and Vegas. Coming back we hit Silver City and Truth or Consequences in New Mexico, a couple of lesser known state parks in Texas, then down the West Coast of Florida (one of our favorite places Fort de Soto in Naples), across to the Keys and up the East Coast, finally ending up in Sebastian, Florida where we just bought a home. We travelled over 17,000 miles and will put on another 1500 before getting back to NH. We camped most of the time, except for Grand Canyon trip and some one nighters traveling on I10. We hit a lot of the same spots you did, but it was really cold when we went, so we passed on Colorado and Utah and will do them another time. Isn't retirement wonderful? Hope we get a chance to compare notes one of these days.
What a great surprise to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comments, maybe we can meet sometime in Florida.
